Here’s what awaits you at this remarkable event!
Understanding Veterans Day
Veterans Day, observed on November 11, honors all military veterans in the U.S. Armed Forces. Initially known as Armistice Day, it commemorates the end of World War I in 1918. Established in 1919 by President Woodrow Wilson, the day reflects pride in the sacrifices of those who died for our country.
The name changed to Veterans Day in 1954 to honor all American veterans. Congress officially recognized November 11 as a day of celebration in 1926, and in 1938, it became a legal holiday dedicated to world peace. In 1975, President Gerald R. Ford reinstated the observance to its original date, aligning it with the sentiments of citizens and veterans organizations.
The Heroes and Hot Rods Event
This year’s Heroes and Hot Rods Car Show marks the 18th annual event, organized by the Bastrop Area Cruisers. The festivities kick off on Friday, November 8, with a Cruise-In beginning at 5 PM on Historic Main Street. Attendees can marvel at classic cars rolling into town and enjoy the lively atmosphere.
The main event is on Saturday, November 9, from 7:30 AM. With around 400 pre-registered vehicles expected, the car show will take over the downtown area, offering a perfect backdrop to appreciate these automotive beauties. From 10:30 AM, a Veterans Tribute March will proceed down Main Street, inviting all veterans and active military personnel to participate and show their pride.
A Veterans Day Tribute and Ceremony will occur at 11 AM at the Bastrop County Courthouse Gazebo. This heartfelt ceremony serves as a moment of gratitude for the sacrifices made by veterans, reminding everyone present of the values of patriotism and service.
Attendees can enjoy a Kids’ Activity Area, browse vendor booths, and participate in a Silent Auction throughout the day.
