The Texas Longhorns kicked off the 2023 season by routing Rice 37-10 at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium at Campbell-Williams Field in Austin on September 2nd. Upcoming home games on the schedule include Wyoming, Kansas, BYU, Kansas State, and Texas Tech. Grab your tickets before they sell out!
100 Seasons of Tradition
This year marks the 100th season of the Texas Longhorns in their stadium. The open-air Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium seats over 100,000 fans. If you haven’t been there, prepare to be awestruck by the sheer breadth and height of the structure! But, even on the top tier, you have a nice view of the game and half-time activities.
Originally dedicated on Thanksgiving Day in 1924, the stadium’s name honors the 198,520 Texans who fought in World War I and the 5,280 who lost their lives. In 1977, it was rededicated to veterans of all wars.
The stadium is just one of the University of Texas (UT) football traditions. You’ll see Bevo, the Longhorn mascot, Hook ‘em, the costumed mascot, Smoky the Cannon, and Big Bertha, the UT band’s giant bass drum at every game. Fans traditionally wear the team’s burnt orange and white to unify their support.
What to Know Before You Go
Maybe the most important thing to remember before you go is that you can only take in clear plastic bags up to 12” x 6” x 12” and 1-gallon resealable plastic storage bags. You can also take small clutch bags or purses up to 4.5” x 6.5” that are not clear to keep essentials out of sight! Stay away from packing mesh bags, binoculars and cameras in non-clear bags, or diaper bags. You can bring your baby items to a clear bag of the right size to take them inside. Plus, each person can bring in one soft plastic bottle of water. Once you’re inside, though, you can enjoy the plentiful food and drinks!
Upcoming Schedule
The Longhorns face Kansas State (KS) on November 4th at home. This match-up is sure to be a Big-12 favorite! UT holds a 6-game win streak over KS, so they’ll be looking to end that this year. Another game to consider is against Texas Tech on November 24th. And have you dreamt about the perfect tailgate party? UT offers full-service tailgates with all the trimmings.
