Celebrate Labor Day in Fredericksburg
August 25, 2023 2:32 pmWhat do polo, wine, and hot-air balloons have in common? They’ll all be together for a unique celebration in Fredericksburg at the Victory Cup Hot Air Balloon Bash. You won’t want to miss this chance to ride a hot-air balloon on Labor Day weekend!
It’s a short trip from Bastrop to Grapetown Vineyards for the Fredericksburg Polo Club’s annual fun fest. Spend Saturday afternoon and evening there, then check out other attractions like Barons Creek Winery, Wild Seed Farms, and the downtown area.
Balloons, Choppers, and Horses, oh my!
You’ll have a lot to do at the bash, so plan to stay awhile! There’ll be vendor booths, a kids’ area, a fashion show, live music, a polo match, and a nighttime balloon glow.
Buy all-inclusive VIP tickets to enjoy the polo match and Farm to Table dinner with live music and a wine tasting after the match. Everyone with a general admission ticket can enjoy the after-dark balloon glow. Plus, you can add a balloon or helicopter ride (as long as the weather cooperates)! For more memorable moments, take a Safari Wine Tour and buy a camping pass to stay overnight.
A safari wine-tasting tour is the way to go if you want to experience everything. The farm is home to many exotic animals like reindeer, zebras, blackbuck deer, and rheas. The tour takes you behind the scenes for a close-up look at all the animals. You’ll also see camels, alpacas, bison, longhorn, Boer goats, ponies, donkeys, Nigerian dwarves, African pygmy, and Saanen dairy goats.
Bonus Fun
If you stay the whole weekend, you can explore other fun places, like Wild Seed Farms, the world’s largest working wildflower farm. This 200-acre farm and vineyard has a half-mile walking trail and gardens. You can taste their estate grapes and the award-winning wines they make with them. Have lunch and grab a cold beer in the Brewbonnet Biergarten. Plus, you can buy some wildflower seeds or plants to take home for your garden.
Barons Creek Vineyards is another cool stop to consider. They have an elegant tasting room where you can sample the reds, whites, and rosés and learn how to pair them with foods like paella. Don’t forget to order one of their delicious pizzas to go with it!
Or spend time in downtown Fredricksburg. Browse, shop, eat, and visit the museums. You’ll find locally owned and operated shops as well as restaurants, brewpubs, and tasting rooms for an afternoon break. All the businesses in the National Historic District on Main Street are locally owned (no chains or franchises are allowed in the historic area). And you can check out the two museums, the National Museum of the Pacific War and the Pioneer Museum.
