Bright and Merry in Bastrop!
December 8, 2023 1:22 pmMake your holidays shine brighter than ever this year by seeing the lights around Bastrop and beyond! The holidays are an exciting time to get out and enjoy the festive spirit. Make plans now to feast your eyes on the beautiful and colorful light shows that add fun and sparkle to the most wonderful time of the year. You can start in Bastrop with a river of lights and a lighted parade, then head to Austin for a stroll on a twinkling trail.
Bastrop River of Lights
See ordinary things turn into extraordinary sights during Bastrop’s River of Lights. Take a trip to June Hill Pape River Walk any day from dusk to 10 PM through January 2nd to see lighted trees, walkways, and bridges. You can see holiday favorites like Christmas ornaments, tinsel, and cartoon lighted displays that make great Instagram moments on the half-mile walk. Start from the stairs west of the intersection of Main and Pine Streets or the fully accessible entrance at Fisherman’s Park on Farm Street. Perhaps you can turn the walk into a new family tradition and look forward to it each year.
Lighted Christmas Parade
Santa Claus is coming to town for the Lost Pines Christmas Lighted Parade! He will join more than 130 floats, vintage cars, and even unicycles all lit up with Christmas lights to celebrate the holidays. The parade starts around 6 PM on Main Street, but you should plan to get there early to stake out a spot with a fantastic view so you don’t miss anything. The route will go south on Main Street.
You can also see dancing Honey Bears, local dignitaries, fire trucks decorated with colorful lights, and, of course, Santa’s Helpers. Stay up to date on parade news and RSVP on the Facebook event page. And if you want to join the parade, you can sign up here.
Austin Trail of Lights
Enjoy one of Austin’s most beloved traditions at the 59th Annual Austin Trail of Lights from December 8th–23rd in Zilker Park. This spectacular light show is the longest-running Austin holiday event and includes over 2 million lights! There are 90 lighted Christmas trees, more than 70 other lighted displays including a giant Texas flag, and tunnels to explore. Just about everything along the trail is lit—trees, buildings, sidewalks, even the walls. Plus, you can enjoy a ride on the lighted merry-go-round and Ferris wheel, check out the toy factory, and get your picture taken with Santa. They even have themed nights for the grand opening and UT fans! You can choose your night and buy your tickets here.
